Nitrogen distillation requires the entire development room to be completely free of oxygen in order to prevent unnecessary oxidation. Quality control steps, such as nitrogen distillation, is a cornerstone of Aceva's quality control systems.

Most of the mercury (known to be present in fish) is distilled out of the first and last 10% of distillation. Aceva discards the first and last 10% to ensure the highest quality product with the least amount of processing. This is the second, but equally important, step of Aceva's fish oil processing
